Small-scale Wind Systems

It is possible to reduce the cost of your small-scale wind system through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. Under the Scheme eligible small-scale wind systems are entitled to a number of small-scale technology certificates (STCs). This is based on the amount of electricity in megawatt hours (MWh) the system generates over the course of its lifetime.

In addition, your system may be eligible for Solar Credits which multiplies the number of STCs the system can receive.

Eligible small-scale wind systems

Small-scale wind systems may be eligible for small-scale technology certificates (STCs) if:

  • The system has a capacity of no more than 10kW and has a total annual electricity output of less than 25 MWh. If your system is larger it will be classified as a RET power station and will need to be accredited in order to be eligible. Visit RET Power Stations.
  • The system is installed correctly by a Clean Energy Council installer who is endorsed for wind installations
  • The small-scale wind system is new
  • The system complies with all local, State and Federal requirements for the type of installation
  • The system complies with Australian and New Zealand standards.

More information

Small-scale wind systems are classified as Small Generation Units and have the same guidelines as solar panels apart from the eligibility requirements. Please refer to the following pages for more information:
