Small-scale Hydro Systems
It is possible to reduce the cost of your small-scale hydro system through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme.
Under the Scheme eligible small-scale hydro systems are entitled to a number of small-scale technology certificates (STCs). This is based on the amount of electricity in megawatt hours (MWh) the system generates over the course of its lifetime.
In addition, your system may be eligible for Solar Credits which multiplies the number of STCs the system can receive.
Eligible small-scale hydro systems
Small-scale hydro systems may be eligible for small-scale technology certificates (STCs) if:
- The system has a capacity of no more than 6.4 kW and has a total annual electricity output of less than 25 MWh. If your system is larger it will be classified as a power station and will need to be accredited in order to be eligible. Visit RET Power Stations.
- The system is installed correctly by a Clean Energy Council installer who is endorsed for hydro installations.
- The small-scale hydro system is new.
- The system complies with all local, State and Federal requirements for the type of installation.
- The installation of the system system complies with Australian and New Zealand standards.
