SGU STC registration fee increase
ORER will be undertaking a solar PV inspection regime. The costs of solar PV inspections will be partially recovered through an increase in the registration fee for small-scale technology certificates (STCs) for small renewable generation units (SGUs). The fee increase, from 8 cents to 47 cents, will commence from the date of effect of the enabling regulations. It is intended that the enabling regulations will be introduced in the third quarter of 2011 (1 July – 31 October). The registration fee for certificates for solar water heaters, heat pumps and renewable energy power stations will remain unchanged at 8c/certificate.

ACCC warning: Solar claims must be accurate
Solar retailers and suppliers must substantiate performance claims and ensure statements about related financial assistance programs are accurate. Acting together in a national project, Australian consumer protection agencies will take swift action against solar power retailers who breach the law. Businesses making misleading, deceptive or false claims about solar energy products risk civil and in some cases criminal sanctions.

Solar Credits reduced
The Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Greg Combet, announced today that the Solar Credits multiplier will be reduced from 5 to 3 from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012. The reduction is a result of the impact of the higher than expected growth in solar panel installations and the flow-on cost to electricity prices.
