Buying STCs and LGCs

Entities that are liable under the Renewable Energy Electricity Act 2000 must purchase and surrender both small-scale technology certificates (STCs) and large-scale generation certificates (LGCs) to meet their liability.

LGCs can only be bought through the LGC market where the price varies depending on supply and demand.

RET Liable entities have two options for buying STCs:

• STCs can be bought through the STC market where the price varies depending on supply and demand.
• STCs can be bought through the STC Clearing House for a fixed price of $44 (incl GST).
